Our Kaupapa

Strengthing Rangatiratanga / Mana Motuhake
Whānau, Hapu, Iwi and Māori Organisations are working together to strengthen our Rangatiratanga in our rohe and nationally.

Outcome: The Government acknowledges whanau, hapu, iwi and Māori aspirations for rangatiratanga to have control over the direction and shape of our own institutions, communities and development as a people.

Iwi are involved in decision-making as representatives and as partners to ensure  that future directions fit with iwi/Māori wider development goals.

Achieving equity –power sharing.

There is true power sharing, jointly prioritising and determining what we do together, jointly making decisions, decisions relating to our lives.

Genuine partnership and relations what we do and how we do things that affect our lives.

The Crown enabling us and leading government and agencies to understand and respect our Rangatiratanga including the repudiation of the Doctrine of Discovery.

Justice Sector Reforms
With Pou Tangata (and others), working in partnership with Government to implement the recommendations in the Justice reports particularly those that strengthen and manifest Rangatiratanga in the justice sector

Outcome: The Government supports moves to strengthen the capability of Māori communities to develop initiatives that meet our needs across the social, cultural and economic sectors.

Devolution of Funding
To advocate for direct funding of whānau, hapu, iwi and Māori organisations to enable the delivery of services to our whānauto achieve outcomes for our communities that are consistent with both the priorities of the forum and Government.  This will include readiness for any future pandemic.

National Plan of Action
To work in partnership with the government to implement and monitor a National Plan of Action for the implementation of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

Eliminating Racism
Working in partnership with Government to eliminate the faces of racism (personal racism, cultural racism and institutional racism) in the public sector and communities.

Review of Customary Fisheries Act
Work in partnership to review the Customary Fisheries Act so that it better reflects respect for Rangatiratanga and addresses overlapping issues.
